PBS Mourns The Passing Of Prospero “Popoy” Zamora, Host Of The Long Time Show
“Buhay Pinoy”
PBS Guam mourns the passing of Prospero “Popoy” Zamora, host of the long-time show “Buhay Pinoy” which was broadcasted on PBS Guam KGTF Channel 12 from 1976 to 2006. The show was also broadcast around the world on ABS-CBN and The Filipino Channel (TFC) from 2005-2006.

“Popoy” worked with PBS Guam to produce his weekly show for over 30 years. His works bridged the local Filipino community with current events and news from the Philippines. He hosted guests from across the region bringing Guam’s first culturally diverse program to life. His content will live on here at PBS Guam and we are deeply saddened by the news of his passing.” Ina Marie V. Carillo, general manager.
Mr. Zamora passed away on May 3, 2022, in Cavite, Philippines at the age of 94.

He was elected commissioner of Dededo in 1973, the first Filipino on Guam to hold such a position. He was elected delegate to Guam Constitutional Convention in 1977. He organized many events for the Filipino community of Guam including the first Philippine Independence Ball in 1984, the Pilipino Amateur Basketball League (PABL) and the Filipino World War II Veterans Luncheon.
He founded and organized the Blood Exchange Center of Guam from 1976-1982, a non-profit humanitarian project, which augmented the critical shortage of human blood supply and addressed the continuing need of safe blood donors on Guam.

For his services to Filipinos on Guam, he received Presidential Award for Outstanding Filipino Overseas from Philippines President Fidel Ramos in 1996.
